About Standards & Technology

Some Commitments identify specific standards or specifications in support of which patents are pledged. In the standards setting arena, formal standards and specifications are promulgated by standard setting organizations (SSOs), such as OASIS. All SSOs have policies and rules that cover treatment of participants' and contributors' intellectual property during and after development. Those policies and rules provide sources of patent and intellectual property covenants in addition to those made in specific Commitments.

Other Commitments identify the particular software implementations or technology it supports, such as the "Linux" kernel. These are also included in the Standards & Technology database.

Organizing Standards & Technology by Type

Our Library organizes Standards & Technology by type depending on general subject matter and any identified technology. The subject matter headings are for convenience only. Please review the text of the particular Commitment for details. Search the Standards & Technology database by type.
